Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 1 pound sirloin steak, cut into bite-sized strips
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 2 small onions, cut into wedges
  • 1 (8 ounce) can water chestnuts, drained
  • ¼ cup chicken broth
  • ½ cup peanuts

Instructions

  • In a non-metal bowl, combine soy sauce, cornstarch, garlic, and crushed red pepper. Add the sliced steak to the bowl and toss to evenly coat the meat with the marinade. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for about 20 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse and tenderize the steak. This marinating step enhances the meat’s flavor and helps it absorb the seasoning before cooking.
  • Heat oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry until it’s no longer pink, about 5 minutes. Then, add the broccoli, onions, and water chestnuts, cooking and stirring for about 2 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp. Pour in the chicken broth and bring the mixture to a boil. Stir in the peanuts and cook for another minute, allowing everything to heat through and combine. Serve the dish hot, ensuring the flavors are well-mixed and the vegetables are perfectly cooked. This quick cooking method helps retain the beef’s tenderness and the vegetables’ crunch, creating a balanced and flavorful dish.
