Ingredients
  

  • 2 pounds medium shrimp – peeled and deveined
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • cayenne pepper to taste
  • ½ cup olive oil
  • 2 pounds chopped okra
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup chopped celery
  • ½ cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 12 cups water
  • ½ cup chopped green onions

Instructions
 

  • Season the shrimp with salt, pepper, and cayenne, then set them aside. In a large pot, heat the oil over medium heat and sauté the okra for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the tomato paste, chopped tomato, onion, garlic, celery, and green bell pepper, and continue to sauté for another 15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  • Pour in the water and adjust the seasoning to your preference. Bring the mixture to a boil, then lower the heat and let it simmer for 45 minutes. Add the seasoned shrimp and continue simmering for an additional 20 minutes. Stir in the chopped green onions at the end, mixing well to combine the flavors.
