Italian Stuffed Chicken Breast
Italian stuffed chicken breast features tender chicken filled with a flavorful blend of cheeses, herbs, and sun-dried tomatoes. This dish beautifully combines juicy meat with rich Italian flavors, making it an elegant option for both special occasions and everyday meals.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups shredded Italian cheese blend (Optional)
- 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- ½ cup Italian-seasoned bread crumbs
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 egg, well beaten
- 1 cup spaghetti sauce
- ¼ cup shredded Italian cheese blend, or to taste (Optional)
Instructions
- Set the oven temperature to 350°F (175°C) and preheat it.
- In one bowl, mix together 1½ cups of Italian cheese blend, garlic, basil, and oregano. In another bowl, blend the Parmesan cheese with the bread crumbs.
- Slice one side of each chicken breast horizontally, taking care not to cut all the way through—stop about half an inch from the other side. Open the chicken breasts like a book and gently pound them to flatten. Stuff each breast with the Italian cheese blend mixture, then fold them back over to enclose the filling. Coat the outside of each chicken breast with beaten egg, then press the bread crumb mixture onto the egg layer to ensure even coverage. Finally, arrange the stuffed chicken breasts in a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Place the chicken in the preheated oven and bake until the center is no longer pink and the juices run clear, approximately 45 minutes. To ensure it's cooked through, an instant-read thermometer should register at least 165°F (74°C). Once done, pour spaghetti sauce over the chicken and sprinkle with ¼ cup of Italian cheese blend. Return to the oven and bake until the sauce is bubbling and the cheese has melted, which will take about an additional 5 minutes.
